Christian Pulisic is reportedly open to joining Barcelona if he is forced to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Christian Pulisic has handed Barcelona a major boost in his pursuit in the January transfer window. The 23-year-old forward is open to joining the Blaugrana if he is forced to call it quits at Chelsea this month.

Christian Pulisic arrived at Chelsea at the onset of the 2019/20 season and enjoyed a solid maiden campaign with the Blues. However, a spate of injuries have blighted the USMNT international since then, and he has consequently tumbled down the pecking order.

The 23-year-old forward has started only eight of the 23 games played by Chelsea this season, garnering 919 minutes of game-time while registering three goals and two assists in the process. The direct result of his struggles is that Pulisic now faces an uncertain future at Chelsea, who are open to selling him in the January transfer window.

The interest from Barcelona is understandable despite the arrival of Ferran Torres from Manchester City in the January transfer window. That is because the Catalan giants are enduring a staggering injury and corona virus crisis at the moment, which has left Xavi Hernandez’s squad bare.

Even when all personnel are available, the attacking unit does not inspire too much confidence apart from Ansu Fati and Torres. Even Memphis Depay’s form has tailed off considerably following a strong start to his Barcelona stint. As a result, the Catalans must bolster the attack further if an opportunity presents itself.

To that end, Pulisic is a viable target for the Blaugrana, with Chelsea’s stance on his possible sale also helping their cause. And now, Pulisic himself has handed a major boost to Barcelona as he is open to joining them in the ongoing transfer window.

However, Chelsea will be demanding around €65 million to part with the 23-year-old forward, a sum that Barcelona cannot afford. Instead, they will offer a loan deal that will include a purchase option.

Meanwhile, Pulisic is also a target for Liverpool, although Chelsea would prefer dealing with Barcelona instead of their Premier League rivals. However, amid the La Liga heavyweight’s financial troubles, it remains to be seen if the player makes his way to Camp Nou this month.
