With the transfer window coming to a close, reports emerge that AC Milan have entered the fray to sign Manchester United winger Nani on loan till the end of the season.
Reports have emerged that Inter Milan were close to signing the Portuguese winger on loan by the end of January as the player found himself increasingly spending his time on the bench. As reported, Tottenham Hotspurs too joined the race with Tim Sherwood being extremely keen in bringing the United player to London. Goal.com now reveals that AC Milan have submitted a late bid for Nani as Clarence Seedorf aims to strengthen his squad and resurrect a diminishing AC Milan side. AC Milan signed Micheal Essien from Chelsea and Adel Taarabt from Queen Parks Rangers this January in an attempt to overhaul the squad and bring about a change.
Mirror Football earlier reported that United Manager, David Moyes, was looking for a swap deal between Nani and Tottenham’s Andros Townsend but the deal fell through after the North London side rejected the offer.
Having lost Moyes’ confidence and being reduced to playing a minor role in United’s campaign this season, Nani has been linked with several clubs in England and Italy. With the World Cup approaching in Summer, Nani has understood that sitting on the United bench is not the best way to prepare himself for the ensuing battle in Brazil. Though the winger has been linked with Inter Milan, AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspurs, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the Portuguese midfielder.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s marksman, Javier Hernandez, who was reportedly looking for greener pastures this January, will be staying put at Old Trafford.
It was reported earlier that Chicharito was looking for a move away from Manchester United after finding himself occupying the bench for most of United’s campaign this year. Below Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order, Hernandez hasn’t been Moyes’ priority this year and with the arrival of Juan Mata, things were looking extremely bleak for the Mexican forward.
However his agent, Eduardo Hernandez claims that though there were several offers for the player, Hernandez has decided to stay at United and fight for a starting spot. Though he claimed that earning a starting spot for Manchester United was the striker’s priority, he admitted that there is a lot of uncertainty regarding Chicharito’s future at Manchester United.
“There was a club from Germany, one from France, and two from Spain and Italy each that want to have him. However, he is under contract with Man Utd and he somehow has to respect it in case there is an agreement between the parties.”
“He has achieved a high value in Europe’s market and I can’t say that there won’t be anything concrete after the next six months. However, we do hope he gets minutes [on the pitch].”
Manchester United will heave a sigh of relief especially after the current squad being plagued by a string of injuries. With the season entering its crucial phase, squad depth is extremely important if United are to stage a late comeback in this year’s campaign.
