Having won 6 games in a row, Van Gaal’s efforts are finally beginning to show at Manchester United despite the club not playing up to their expected standard. Van Gaal was provided with the services of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw over an ‘expensive’ summer and it looks like Ed Woodward is willing to spend further money on transfers in order to make sure that United have a strong squad to compete with the likes of Manchetser City and Chelsea in England.
Manchester United have been linked with a transfer move for Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri who has admitted his frustration with Pep Guardiola. The Swiss international has not featured significantly in the starting line-up and is looking for a move away from Munich in order to get more playing time. Shaqiri was earlier linked with a move to Liverpool and it now seems that United too are keen on acquiring his services.
Shaqiri’s brother and agent Erdin however believes that the Swiss international will only look at prospective transfer offers at the end of the season.
“Xherdan is 23. At this age, he needs to play regularly, which is not currently the case. We are now waiting safely until summer. Then, when teams come as Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan and other top clubs we hear that to us safely.”
Shaqiri has been linked with several different clubs in the past few months after clearly expressing his disappointment with Guardiola for not giving him enough first team football action. With United and Liverpool both interested in the dynamic midfielder, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Swiss international.
Meanwhile according to reports, Manchester United are ready to place a £47 million transfer deal before Borussia Dortmund in order to secure the services of Mats Hummels. Hummels has long been linked with several different clubs but the German defender had previously pledged his loyalty to Dortmund. But with Dortmund continuing to misfire in the domestic league, it remains to be seen if Klopp can still hold on to his prized defender.
Borussia Dortmund are astonishingly languishing in the relegation zone after having won only 15 points from their 16 league games. They are 27 points behind supposed rivals Bayern Munich and are struggling to hold on to players like Marco Reus and Mats Hummels. According to reports, United will be looking to sign the defender in January but the captain is not expected to abandon the club mid-way into a season. It looks like Hummels will continue to play for Dortmund and will take a call regarding his future in the coming summer. The 26 year old defender is highly rated in Europe and is being linked with a move to United and Arsenal, amongst other European powerhouses.
It is also being reported that Manchester United are eyeing a transfer move for Galactico Gareth Bale with United willing to spend £90 million to bring the Welshman back to England. Though United were definitely in the market for Bale in 2013 when Bale was on the brink of his move away from Tottenham Hotspur, it seems unlikely that the Welsh winger will be interested in leaving Madrid who are the current Champions League winners. Also Real Madrid recently allowed Di Maria to leave for United and it seems highly unrealistic that they will allow another stalwart winger to leave Santiago Bernabeu. And though the reports claim that United are interested in Bale, it seems unlikely that this transfer will materialize anytime soon.
