Alex Telles is closing in on a loan move to Sevilla as his Manchester United chapter edges towards its concluding stages.

According to TNT Sports Brazil, Alex Telles is closing in on a loan move to Sevilla, as medicals could occur imminently. The details of the deal with Manchester United remain unclear, although his future at the club seems to be over now.

Alex Telles could always be considered a desperate signing rather than a planned effort two years ago. But, then, Manchester United convinced FC Porto in 2020 to part with the Brazilian left-back for a fee in the region of £14 million, and at the time, it looked like a decent acquisition.

Telles started well at Manchester United and his signing also helped then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer extract the best out of Luke Shaw during the 2020/21 season. However, his performance levels dipped last season. The left-back did make 21 appearances in the Premier League last season, but due to Luke Shaw’s fitness issues.

Even though he notched up four assists, Telles lacked the defensive discipline needed at Manchester United, and Erik Ten Hag immediately found a solution upon his arrival by making Tyrell Malacia his first signing at the club and addressed a problem area.

The former Feyenoord star’s arrival directly affects Telles’ future at the club, and ten Hag is happy to dispense off with the left-back. There were reports about Porto being keen on bringing Telles back to the club, although they remain uninterested in any deal.

There was also some chatter about the Brazilian being pursued by clubs in France, but as things stand, he could be on his way to Spain, with Sevilla closing in on a deal to sign Telles on a loan deal.

Sevilla have shown an interest in the Manchester United defender after losing Ludwig Augustinsson this summer. And a loan switch is now reported to be close although the details about the terms of agreement remain unknown. However, the report adds that medicals could be set to take place imminently.

Manchester United will begin the season with Shaw and Malacia as their options left-backs. The Red Devils have also signed Lisandro Martinez to shore up the backline and are still looking at options to strengthen their squad in the transfer window.
