FC Porto are reportedly uninterested in re-signing Manchester United defender Alex Telles, two years after selling him to the Red Devils.

According to journalist Pedro Sepulveda, Manchester United defender Alex Telles is not a transfer target for his former club FC Porto, contrary to what is being reported in the media.

Telles joined Manchester United in the summer of 2020, arriving from Porto in a deal worth around £15 million. The 29-year-old enjoyed a fruitful debut campaign, putting in some impressive performances when called upon. His arrival also lit a spark in Luke Shaw, whose performances improved due to the competition for places.

However, Telles was unable to maintain the same level last season and endured a dip in form. To date, the Brazilian international has made 50 appearances for Manchester United, scoring one goal and setting up eight more.

While he has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford, the 29-year-old could be on the move this summer as Manchester United have roped in Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord this summer. The Dutchman is set to be the first-choice left-back under new manager Erik ten Hag. And with Luke Shaw as Malacia’s understudy, Telles will likely be sacrificed by the Red Devils.

With Telles’ future at Old Trafford looking bleak, a return to FC Porto has been talked about, especially in the Portuguese media. The 29-year-old four years at the club after joining them in 2016 from Galatasaray, and enjoyed great success.

Indeed, the left-back made 194 appearances for the Dragoes, chalking up 26 goals and 57 assists, winning two Portuguese league titles, one Portuguese Cup and one Portuguese Super Cup. His ability to score and create goals, as well as the quality he provides from set-piece situations, had made him a key player at Porto.

However, despite reports claiming that the Portuguese champions are interested in re-signing Telles, Pedro Sepulveda has denied those claims, stating that Porto are not looking to sign a new left-back in the current transfer window. While a return to his old stomping ground might not be an option any longer, Telles is also attracting interest from OGC Nice, and a transfer to France could be a possibility for him.
