Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais are reportedly on the verge of signing Joe Rodon from Tottenham Hotspur on loan this summer.

According to Italian football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais are set to secure the services of centre-back Joe Rodon on a loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur. The two teams are yet to agree on terms, but discussions are in the final stage, with a confirmation expected soon.

Joe Rodon joined Tottenham Hotspur from Swansea City in a deal around €12 million. But the Welsh defender has failed to cement a starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He has made just 24 appearances across all competitions for the north London club and does not feature in Antonio Conte’s plans going forward.

While the 24-year-old was already one of the last names on the pecking order, Spurs have also signed Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on loan, which would mean the few chances that Rodon managed over the last couple of seasons will decrease further.

Tottenham have been trying to find a potential suitor for the Welsh defender, who still has three years left on his contract with the north London club. Newly-promoted Premier League outfits Fulham and Nottingham Forest were among the clubs showing interest, along with AS Roma.

Widespread reports also claimed that Tottenham were eager to include the 24-year-old Rodon in a potential deal to sign Italian international Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma. However, the proposal did not convince the Giallorossi, and Rennes have now emerged as the favourites to secure the Wales international’s signature.

The Ligue 1 outfit will sign the defender on an initial loan deal. And as per Fabrizio Romano, Stade Rennais have the option of making the move permanent for a fee of €20 million. Tottenham and Rennes are expected to reach an agreement soon and are finalising the finer details of the transfer.

Spurs have sold Dutch attacker Steven Bergwijn this summer and are also looking to offload young defender Japhet Tanganga. On the other hand, Tottenham have signed six players, including Lenglet, with Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster all joining the north London outfit.
