Real Madrid prospect Reinier Jesus is reportedly keen on completing a loan move to Benfica in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Reinier Jesus is clear about his next destination heading into the summer transfer window. The Brazilian prospect is keen on joining Portuguese giants Benfica ahead of the 2022/23 season amid interest from Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.

Reinier Jesus had pundits raving about him when he joined Real Madrid from Flamengo over two years ago. Brazilian media had compared the young attacking midfielder to Kaka, meaning there was a lot of hype surrounding him back then. Fast forward to June 2022, and the excitement has withered away, with the 20-year-old enduring a forgettable loan stint with Borussia Dortmund.

Real Madrid would have had high hopes when Reinier joined Dortmund, considering the German club’s reputation for grooming the most promising youngsters into top-class players. But Reinier garnered just 741 minutes of game-time across 39 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, chipping in with one goal and one assist.

The Brazilian prospect is back at Real Madrid following the culmination of his Dortmund loan, but he will embark on another temporary stint away from the Santiago Bernabeu. This time, Reinier’s next destination is Portugal, with Benfica reportedly keen on signing him.

The interest from Benfica is intriguing, considering Goncalo Ramos is going strong at Estadio da Luz. But after losing Everton and Darwin Nunez this summer, Benfica needed an injection of quality in the attacking unit. And Reinier might help with that if he can rediscover his form upon joining the Portuguese giants.

The 20-year-old has also attracted interest from several other clubs in Europe, including Fenerbahce. But the Real Madrid prospect is clear about where he wants to play next season, which is why he is prioritising joining Portuguese giants Benfica on loan in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid and Benfica will likely be familiar counterparts this summer, with Los Blancos keen on signing Henrique Araujo. Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will soon open talks to sign the young striker from the Portuguese giants. So we may see Reinier and Araujo swap bases ahead of the 2022/23 season.
