AS Roma have reportedly set their sights on a summer move for Reinier Jesus, with Real Madrid open to letting the Brazilian leave on loan.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid youngster Reinier Jesus could again depart on a loan deal this summer with Italian giants AS Roma interested in signing the Brazilian.

Reinier Jesus joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in the January transfer window of 2020 but is yet to make a mark at the first-team level for Los Blancos. Six months after his arrival, the attacking midfielder was shipped out on loan to Borussia Dortmund for two seasons.

However, the 20-year-old’s time in Germany proved to be a major dud as he hardly got any game-time with the Black and Yellows. Indeed, Reinier made just 39 appearances in two seasons with Borussia Dortmund, scoring and assisting one goal apiece. Now set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the month, the Brazilian finds himself in transfer limbo yet again.

Real Madrid already have a packed roster with little room for Reinier Jesus. Furthermore, with the reigning Spanish and European champions plotting to add another attacker in the summer, the 20-year-old is unlikely to stand a chance of playing regularly if he stays put at the club.

So, another loan move is pretty much certain for Reinier Jesus. The former Flamengo wonderkid is drawing plenty of interest from clubs in La Liga, with Espanyol showing a desire to sign him on loan, while other teams such as Valencia, Real Betis and Real Valladolid are also looking at the possibility of taking him on loan for the 2022/23 season.

Now, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma have also entered the fray for the signing of Reinier Jesus as the Portuguese tactician looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign. The Giallorossi will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan depart on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Considering the Armenian’s impending exit and Nicolo Zaniolo’s past tryst with injuries, it would be sensible for Roma to add another player who can slot in as a No. 10 or out wide, making Reinier Jesus a viable target.

However, Real Madrid might have some concerns over loaning him to the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League champions after seeing Borja Mayoral suffer from a lack of game-time in the first half of the last season. So, it will be interesting to see where the 20-year-old Reinier Jesus ends up this summer as a loan move away from Real Madrid beckons.
