Relegation-threatened Leeds United are showing an interest in Real Zaragoza youngster Ivan Azon.

According to Heraldo, Premier League side Leeds United are keen on securing the services of Real Zaragoza’s talented 19-year-old forward Ivan Azon in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Ivan Azon came through the ranks at Amistad before moving to Zaragoza in 2016. Azon has since made 66 appearances for the Spanish side, scoring ten goals and making two assists. It is fair to say that he has turned quite a few heads with his performances.

Real Zaragoza are 14th in the Segunda Division and appear unlikely to qualify for La Liga anytime soon. Azon certainly has the potential to be a dependable goalscorer for a top-flight side and could do with a move to greener pastures.

Leeds, for their part, are enduring a season to forget. The Whites have failed to hit the same heights as last season and face the threat of being relegated to the second division. A major reason for their struggles this season has been the lack of a reliable goalscorer to lead the line.

Jesse Marsch’s side have had to make do with injuries to Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo being woefully out of form. That being said, they could do with another striker to call upon and make a difference. Azon appears to be a player who can provide Leeds with a long-term solution to their striking woes provided he develops as per expectations.

The Yorkshire outfit’s interest appears to be independent of whether they remain in the top flight or get relegated. Either way, there appears to be confidence in the club’s ranks that the Spanish Under-21 international will thrive under the right guidance.

A move to England will not be easy for a player who isn’t used to the physical nature of the British style. This is especially true in the Championship where the stakes are high and the quarters given are none. One could argue that Azon could receive an education to toughen himself up like nowhere else.

While planning for the future is well and good, Leeds still have much to do this season. Securing their Premier League status will only strengthen their hand in the bid to bring in new players.
