La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly keen on securing the services of 30-year-old Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne this summer.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Kevin De Bruyne is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. But signing the 30-year-old Belgian international from Manchester City could be beyond Barcelona’s means.

Kevin De Bruyne has established himself as one of the best playmakers of his generation since ending his frustrating spell with Chelsea in January 2014. After an impressive 18-month stint with VfL Wolfsburg, the player joined Manchester City in August 2015, and he has not looked back since.

De Bruyne has been instrumental in the resounding success the Citizens have achieved in the last seven years while amassing 82 goals and 119 assists in 303 appearances. The 30-year-old Belgian international’s exploits for Manchester City have captured the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Barcelona currently keen on landing him.

Barcelona might need to invest in a creative midfielder in the summer transfer window amid rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Frenkie de Jong. The Catalan giants are open to cashing in on the Dutch international, even though he has been one of their most reliable performers in the last three years.

Amid widespread reports linking de Jong with a departure from Camp Nou, several playmakers, including Bernardo Silva, have emerged on Barcelona’s radar. And recent reports have claimed that Barcelona could propose a swap deal involving de Jong to land Silva in the summer transfer window.

De Bruyne’s entry into the picture now complicates matters. But the 30-year-old Belgian international is an “impossible dream” for Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo. Along with Marco Verratti, the Manchester City star is a midfielder the Catalan giants are keen on signing but might not be able to afford.

Manchester City will never entertain an offer for De Bruyne, whose contract runs until June 30, 2025, meaning he would have been too expensive for Barcelona anyway. Pursuing Bernardo Silva might be the alternative for Barcelona, with a swap deal reportedly on the cards amid Manchester City’s interest in de Jong.
