Everton are reportedly considering a late swoop of Neal Maupay, though they will need to sell players first before they can sign the French striker.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Neal Maupay is the subject of interest from Everton over a late move in the summer transfer window. However, the Toffees will need to offload a few players to balance their books before they can sign the Brighton & Hove Albion striker, who is also a target for Marseille.

Neal Maupay joined Brighton & Hove Albion from Brentford in the summer of 2019 and has since been a key figure for the Seagulls. While not the most prolific of players in the final third, the French striker has still scored some important goals for the south coast club.

To date, the 25-year-old has managed a tally of 20 goals and five assists in 76 appearances for Brighton, and has also made a strong start to the season, with two goals in as many games. His progress at the Amex Stadium seems to have alerted Everton, who are now plotting a late move for Maupay.

The interest from Everton is not too surprising, considering Richarlison has been heavily linked with a potential summer exit. The Brazilian international was first linked with Real Madrid, with Paris Saint-Germain now emerging in his trail, as they look to find a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is being heavily linked with Real Madrid.

If Richarlison ends up leaving, Everton will need to source a replacement of their own, making Maupay a viable target, especially considering he is a versatile forward. However, the Toffees are not in a position to launch the offensive for the French striker just yet.

That is because Everton need to balance their books before they can sign any new players. The Merseyside club are hoping to sort out the futures of players like James Rodriguez, Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun and Moise Kean. And if they can manage to offload Tosun and Kean in particular, Everton will likely have created a spot for Maupay.

The Toffees have already been linked with a number of strikers this summer, including Daniel Jebbison, Matheus Cunha and Joaquin Correa. Maupay, though, could be more of a viable target, although he is also being courted by Marseille. Brighton’s stance over a sale will also be interesting to see, as late drama beckons surrounding the 25-year-old this summer.
