Manchester United are reportedly plotting a summer move for Willian, having established contact with the Chelsea winger’s entourage.

According to a report by France Football, Willian is the subject of interest from Manchester United, who have begun talks with his representatives over a possible transfer. The Brazilian winger is set to leave Chelsea as a free agent in the summer window after failing to reach an agreement for a new deal.

Willian is currently in his seventh season with Chelsea, having joined the Blues from Anzhi Makhachkala in the summer of 2013. Since then, he has been a regular face in attack for the Blues, amassing over 300 appearances over the course of his stay at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Brazilian international’s time at Chelsea is now set to come to end this summer. His contract with the West Londoners ends this summer and with the two parties failing to agree terms of a new deal, it is certain that he will depart as a free agent. A number of clubs have been linked with Willian as a result, with Manchester United now showing an interest.

Manchester United are in the market for a winger who is a natural fit on the right flank. Their priority is Jadon Sancho, who they are confident of signing this summer. However, the Red Devils seem to be keeping their options open in case they are unable to land the Englishman.

Even if Manchester United end up signing Sancho, getting in someone like Willian will only add quality competition for him and Marcus Rashford, with Daniel James the only other natural winger in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad. The Chelsea star will also bring in some much-needed experience in attack, something Solskjaer could do with in his young squad.

As a result, the veteran forward is a viable target for Manchester United, who have now begun talks with his agent, Kia Joorabchian. United ought to have a good chance of swooping Willian away from Chelsea, with Real Madrid bowing out of the race to sign him.

For long, though, Arsenal have been touted to be the favourites to sign the Brazilian winger. What will be interesting to see if the Gunners are still interested in signing him, in which case Manchester United will have some competition for his signature. For now, though, what is certain is that Willian is set to leave Chelsea soon.
