Manchester United are reportedly confident of sealing the signing of Jadon Sancho, even as Borussia Dortmund attempt to tie him down with a new contract.

As per an exclusive report from 90min.com, Manchester United are confident of completing the transfer of England international Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in the summer window.

The 20-year-old has grown into one of the most dangerous wingers in Europe since making the switch to Dortmund from Manchester City three years ago. Following a hat-trick in Sunday’s game against SC Paderborn, the 20-year-old now has 20 goals and assists apiece in 38 games across all competitions for the season.

This kind of form has seen Sancho become the priority transfer target for Manchester United. The Red Devils’ did strengthen their attack last summer with the signing of Daniel James from Swansea City. However, they still lack a quality option, who can supply goals and creativity on a consistent basis from the right flank.

Sancho, to that end, would be an ideal addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. Manchester United have been monitoring the England international since last summer. Having failed to close the deal last time out, the Red Devils have been tipped to finally get their man ahead of the next season.

Borussia Dortmund, though, are making a last-ditch attempt to convince him to stay at the club by offering him a new contract, as per the aforementioned report.

The Bundesliga giants were believed to be open to cashing in on the winger, who has two years left on his current deal. However, given the impact of the coronavirus on finances of clubs across Europe, Dortmund are now concerned that they might not be able to extract the maximum price for the 20-year-old in the current climes.

Hence, they are insisting on him signing a new contract, which would see him double his current £100,000-a-week basic wages. The contract would come with a guarantee of a sale in the summer of 2021, with the hope that the transfer market would pick back up in a year.

Manchester United, however, remain confident of landing Sancho, in spite of these developments. Chief executive Ed Woodward had hinted that business might be affected due to the prevalent economic conditions. However, the Red Devils believe that this is the best chance of them landing the 20-year-old, with competition likely to be thin because of the same reason.

Manchester United are prepared to offer Sancho a contract worth £250,000-a-week, along with the lure of donning the famed No. 7 jersey. In addition, an alternate report from Goal claims that the Englishman has every intention of leaving Dortmund this summer and will refuse any contract being offered, handing the Red Devils further boost.

The transfer fee might become a bone of contention, though, with Dortmund refusing to budge from their asking price, while United are unwilling to pay more than £100 million. However, according to the report, there is a general feeling within both camps that the deal will get done at some point this summer.
