Luka Modric is reportedly open to leaving Real Madrid this summer amid interest from Inter Milan over a possible move

According to a report by Sky Italia, Inter Milan are weighing up the possibility of signing Luka Modric in this summer’s transfer window. The Croat is considering his departure from Real Madrid, who are understandably reluctant to part ways with their star midfielder.

Modric has been one of the pillars of success for Real Madrid since moving from Tottenham in the summer of 2012. Over the last few years, the player has combined with Toni Kroos and Casemiro in the middle of the park, the trio have set the base for domination in Europe.

But, after six seasons at the Bernabeu, it looks like his spell with Real Madrid could be coming to an end this summer. Rumours have been rife about the player being open to leaving Los Blancos, something that the report confirms as well. And, the Croat has a new suitor in the form of Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri appear stacked in midfield after the arrival of Radja Nainggolan. The Belgian’s addition means Luciano Spalletti now has as many as six midfielders at his disposal, with Alex Vidal also rumoured to be on his way to Inter Milan.

But, the Italian giants still seem to be lacking the cutting edge in terms of creativity, something that the arrival of Modric from Real Madrid could solve. The Croat could also mitigate the possible departure of Matias Vecino, who is being heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.

While Modric isn’t a defensive midfielder, Inter already are well stocked in the area. His age will unlikely be a problem, with the veteran Croat showing that he still oozes class, as evidenced by his Golden Ball winning campaign at the World Cup. With the 33-year-old ready to leave Real Madrid as well, Inter have the impetus to launch the offensive for him.

But, Real Madrid are not ready to let Modric be the second high profile player to depart this summer, with Cristiano Ronaldo joining JuventusLos Blancos are prepared to fight hard to keep hold of their star midfielder, and Julen Lopetegui will likely hold talks with the player and convince him to stay.

The mood in the Inter Milan camp is a bit pessimistic as well, and they do not expect Modric to switch allegiances from Real Madrid easily, even if they match his wages. At the moment, it looks likelier that he will stay put at the Bernabeu, considering the predicament Los Blancos find themselves in.
