Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric is wanted by German champions Bayern Munich as their attempt to bolster their midfield this summer.
Bayern Munich have emerged as shock candidates to sign Luka Modric, according to reports from Don Balon. The Real Madrid superstar has been incredible in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018 and a move out of Bernabeu could soon be on the horizon. His performances have attracted the interest of several top clubs around Europe with Bayern Munich being the latest entrants in that list, according to the Spanish news outlet.
Luka Modric still has a contract with Real Madrid till 2020. Even though his performances at the Bernabeu haven’t gone unnoticed in the last few years, the Croatian midfield supremo could seek pastures new this summer following six successful years with Los Blancos.
During his time at the Spanish capital, Modric has won as many as four Champions League titles along with a Spanish league title and a Copa Del Rey. Having made over 250 competitive appearances for the Whites, Modric will easily go down as one of the best midfielders to don the fabled Real Madrid jersey in the twenty-first century.
However, the 32-year-old has been particularly impressive in the ongoing FIFA World Cup, driving Croatia to the quarterfinals. His partnership with Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic has been labelled as the best midfield duo in this edition of the World Cup. So much so, that many fans and experts firmly believe that a Modric-led Hrvatska are genuine contenders of lifting the coveted trophy this summer.
As a result of that, there have been several European teams who are more than willing to break the bank to sign Luka Modric this summer and the list includes the German giants.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, have appeared tentative in big games, especially in the Champions League. And despite their sheer dominance in the German Bundesliga, the Bavarians seem to lack the experience of someone who can drive them on in crunch fixtures and thus, Luka Modric is a viable target for Bayern.
The Croatian international, as mentioned earlier, has an ample amount of experience in the Champions League, having won the coveted trophy for a record four times. Therefore, his addition could provide significant depth into Bayern’s midfield department. His ability to carve out opposition defences with pinpoint passing and clever movements in the final third will also make them much more flexible in that area of the pitch.
In addition, key midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been subject to a move out of Allianz Arena this summer with Barcelona reportedly vying for his services. Thus, the acquisition of a world class midfielder, who can instigate moves from the midfield, is imperative for the German champions if they are to maintain their unrivalled success in the top flight and Luka Modric is more than capable of providing that.
