Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes has confirmed that the Portuguese superstar is not going to make a dream return to Manchester United and will retire at Real Madrid.

In a recent interview, the super-agent of European football, Jorge Mendes, revealed that the rumours surrounding Ronaldo’s ‘emotional return’ to Manchester United were baseless as the Portuguese international was keen on finishing his career at Real Madrid. Mendes also heaped lavish praise on the Real Madrid winger who is currently on a brilliant goal-scoring form.

“Ronaldo will retire at Real Madrid when he turns 40. Ronaldo is the best player ever. He keeps improving and while he has affection towards Manchester United, he wants to stay at Real Madrid. There won’t be any player as good as him for the next 500 years.”

The rumours of a potential return surfaced after Ronaldo claimed that he still loved Manchester United and could return to the club ‘someday’. Speculation was further encouraged when Louis Van Gaal claimed that he would love to have Cristiano Ronaldo at the club though the Dutchman had also remarked that Real Madrid would not part with their superstar, something which failed to find print in the press.

Jorge Mendes revealed that Manchester United will always be dear to Ronaldo as he spent his formative years under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. He was however quick to point out that Ronaldo was thrilled to be a part of Real Madrid and was concentrating only on winning trophies with the Galacticos.

“Cristiano holds United dear to his heart because he was there six years. But now he just thinks of the Real Madrid and he will always be there, and he is thrilled.”

Almost as a warning, Mendes reiterated that it would be ‘impossible’ to get Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid as if hinting that the popular figure of £140 million, doing the rounds in the press, would also not suffice to lure the Portuguese away.

“People know that it is impossible to get Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid.”

There were questions surrounding Ronaldo’s relationship with President Florentino Perez after Ronaldo chose to publicly criticize Perez for his transfer policy and for allowing Di Maria and Xabi Alonso to leave the club this summer. Ultimately the Portuguese international had to toe the club line and issued a clarification stating that all was well with him and the club.

Agent Mendes also took the opportunity to clear the air between Ronaldo and Perez and revealed that the player shared a great relationship with the President and is extremely satisfied with his lucrative contract at Santiago Bernabeu.

“He is happy there, he has a great relationship with the president, and has a long contract: he will break all the records and then retire at Madrid.”

While Real Madrid faithful will rejoice with this news, the fact remains that anything can happen between October and next summer. While Mendes’ words do give an insight into Ronaldo’s future, to close the subject because of a single interview would be premature.
