The return of QPR to Premier League promised an exciting transfer window. Harry Redknapp has convinced Rio Ferdinand to sign for QPR and a transfer fee is agreed for Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker.

The ambitious Loftus Road side have straight away bounced back from Championship to Premier League. Like last two seasons ago, a plethora of transfers are expected at QPR. With Harry Redknapp in charge of affairs, it won’t be difficult to attract the big names. The likes of Rio Ferdinand, Gareth Barry, Scott Parker and Joe Cole were linked with a move to QPR earlier this summer. QPR have the finances to back their ambitions and in Harry Redknapp, a manager to attract the big names.

Harry Redknapp’s man management skills was the key to his success during his tenures at West Ham, Portsmouth, Tottenham Hotspur etc. The media favourite manager was expected to bring few of his old wards to Loftus Road, in their pursuit to establish themselves in Premier League.

35-year-old Rio Ferdinand, a free agent following his release by Manchester United was considered as a priority signing by Harry Redknapp. It was Harry Redknapp, who handed the debut to Rio Ferdinand during their West Ham days. Rio Ferdinand considers Harry Redknapp as his mentor even after a legendary career with Manchester United. The manager’s influence on the veteran England defender seems to have turned the tables in favour of QPR.

Harry Redknapp confirmed that Rio Ferdinand is set to sign for QPR as reported by Guardian.

“Rio Ferdinand has agreed to join us and we’re hopeful of getting that one over the line when he gets back from the World Cup. I can’t foresee any problems with it and we’d be delighted if we can get it done soon. He’s been a player at the top of the list since he left Manchester United and he would give the whole place a lift with his quality and experience.”

As expected Rio Ferdinand is not the only player set to join QPR as Tottenham academy product Steven Caulker is also expected to follow the veteran center back to Loftus road. With Harry Redknapp at the helm of affairs at QPR, some of the Tottenham players were linked with a re-union. The signing of England and former Tottenham defender Steven Caulker is likely to happen in the coming days. Cardiff City were relegated to Championship after their failure to stay alive in Premier League.

Top performers like Steven Caulker and David Marshall had attracted plenty of interest from Premier League sides and their exit seemed imminent after their relegation. QPR has pounced on the chance to secure Tottenham academy product Steven Caulker. Even though a fee is agreed with Cardiff City, a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham and Southampton are also in the race for Steven Caulker’s signature. England defender Steven Caulker has worked together with Harry Redknapp while at Tottenham, and a reunion with his former mentor might appeal him.

“We’ve agreed a fee with Cardiff and it’s now up to Steven Caulker to decide his next move. I know him well from Spurs and he’s always been a tremendous prospect. Hopefully that’s another one we can get done.”

If QPR can convince Steven Caulker to join their ranks along with Rio Ferdinand, it will be dream center back pairing for a newly promoted team. Two established Premier League center backs; experienced veteran Rio Ferdinand guiding the youthful exuberance of Steven Caulker. Did Tony Fernandez imagine a better start on his teams return to top flight?
