Agent of Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has disclosed Inter Milan’s interest in signing the experienced defender.
The 32-year-old has been an integral part of the Manchester United side since his arrival from Spartak Moscow in 2006, but this could possibly be his last season at Old Trafford. Since 2011-12 season, the Serbian international has faced a lot of fitness concerns and has had limited contribution in the Premier League. VidManic, who has already won five Premier League titles along with one Champions League and three League Cups during his tenure, is currently in the last year of his current contract and his agent has already ruled out a contract extension.
Fiorentina, Juventus and Napoli have all being linked as a possible destination for Vidic next season, but latest reports from Italy suggest that Inter are leading the race for his signature. His agent Silvano Martina has confirmed Inter’s interest in signing the center back.
“Inter Milan have only shown an interest in my client, at least for now.” – Martina said in an interview.
Manchester United’s normal policy for players above 30 is to offer a one-year extension, but Vidic is reportedly looking for a bigger deal and there are concerns about providing a bigger contract at Old Trafford due to his fitness issues. With Rio Ferdinand approaching the fag end of his career as well, United are expected to bring in new reinforcements at the back in next summer. But these will be huge boots to fill up for any new player, while the likes of Evans, Jones and Smalling will be required to step up their game as well.
Inter have reportedly held talks with his agent and the Italian club have believed to have offered Vidic a five year contract with £100,000-a-week wages. Vidic is also interested in joining the Nerazzurri in the summer, who are currently undergoing a transitional phase and Vidic’s experience would be a massive boost for them.
