According to reports, Radamel Falcao is still to recover from his injury and will miss Manchester Uniteds crucial fixture against Arsenal. However Van Gaal has received a boost ahead of his duel with Arsene Wenger as both Di Maria and David De Gea are fit to feature at the Emirates.

Having joined United from Monaco this summer, Falcao has been out for the past month with a calf injury. The Colombian has featured sparingly this season with many suggesting that his time at Old Trafford was already up. Having already missed the crucial games against Chelsea and Manchester City, it now seems that Falcao will take another week to recover from his injury, ruling him unavailable against Arsenal this Saturday.

According to Colombia’s team doctor,  Carlos Ulloa, Falcao is in his last stage of recovery and could be back within 8 days.

“He is ending his last phase of recovery, we expect that may be in eight days.”

However it remains to be seen if Falcao can sustain himself  in this demanding football league and stay relatively injury-free for the remainder of the season. Given his history, it is well-known that United will not resort the option to buy Falcao permanently if the striker fails to impress the United faithful  and cannot stay free from injuries.

Meanwhile Van Gaal will be relieved to know that both Di Maria and David De Gea are training well and will be fit to face Arsenal this Saturday. De Gea dislocated his finger while on international duty with Spain while Di Maria suffered a knock in the international friendly against Portugal at Old Trafford itself.

Though both injuries were initially deemed to be serious, Van Gaal has confirmed that the two have recovered well and are training normally. However Van Gaal revealed that new signing Luke Shaw remains unavailable for the match after suffering a knock.

“Di Maria has trained today normally so I don’t think that is a question mark, but Shaw is. De Gea is good, no problem. I think I have to wait for the reaction in training with Carrick, but I also expect he’s ready to play.”

With Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo both injured, it remains to be seen how United’s defence shapes up against Arsenal on Saturday. Along with these two new signings, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans  and Rafael remain sidelined due to injuries.
