Player Analysis: Can Alexis Sanchez Regain His Mojo For Arsenal?

For quite a few seasons now, Arsenal had failed to sign the kind of players that can make a difference to the team. They have always gone for the cheap option, and while the rare Santi Cazorla comes up at that price once in a while, more often than not it has been a line of mediocrity that was just about enough to finish in the top 4. But from a couple of seasons now, things have changed with the signing of Mesut Ozil and then the acquisition of Alexis Sanchez at the start of this season. The Chilean has been a revelation this season. Becoming the focal point of an injury ridden team and almost single-handedly winning games for Arsenal. He had a difficult month or two at the beginning, while he was trying to adjust to a new team, a new league, and a new environment. Arsene Wenger even dropped him for a few games because he was slowing […] Read more »

Premier League Analysis: Chelsea Stumbling Towards Finish Line; United Hot On City’s Heels

Six points ahead of the second-placed team, with a game in hand and with a mere nine games left to play in the season – Jose Mourinho couldn’t have wished for a better position to be in at the end of March. His team, however, haven’t looked convincing since the 5-0 defeat of Swansea in January, and the last-gasp victory at Hull City did nothing to ease the anxiety of the Blues’ faithful. Perhaps still reeling from the public opprobrium of their Champions League exit at the hands of PSG, Mourinho’s men have looked extremely suspect defensively, and are struggling to dominate games with an out-of-form pivot of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas at the centre of the park. Arsenal, meanwhile, are the form team in the league. With Olivier Giroud seemingly scoring at will, the Gunners have registered six wins on the bounce – finding themselves a solitary point behind Manchester City. Manchester United’s season seemed to go from […] Read more »

When Arsenal Lose, I’m Just As Miserable As Any Fan – Wenger

In October this year, Arsene Wenger will complete 20 years as Arsenal manager but the Frenchman’s hunger stays intact. The 65-year-old, who is by far the most experienced manager in the Premier League now, has admitted to being gutted each any fan after his side face defeat. Wenger, in fact, says he goes into “quarantine mode” and does his best to stay out of people’s way so they don’t suffer along with him. Over the second part of his reign at Arsenal, the club went through a nine year trophy drought which ended last year when the club went on to lift the FA Cup by defeating Hull City in the final. During that time, Wenger has come under severe criticism from a major section of Arsenal fans. These fans include former players such as Emmanuel Petit who said that he had been left disappointed by the club’s performance “year after year”. Wenger’s side are the form side in the […] Read more »

Theo Walcott Denies Bust-Up With Arsene Wenger And Claims Arsenal Are Yet To Offer Him A New Deal

Theo Walcott has rubbished reports of a bust-up with boss Arsene Wenger and claims Arsenal are yet to offer him a contract extension. The England star is approaching the final year of his deal at the Emirates, with speculation that he is demanding more than £100,000-per-week to extend his stay in north London. Wenger said last month that the Gunners had started negotiations with the 26-year-old in a bid to get his future tied down. On March 14, Wenger said: “The first contacts have been established with the embassy. We will see how that (negotiations) progresses politically.” “Walcott was difficult to convince (in 2013) and that is why it took us much time.” “We have started very early with him, but it was slow progress – he is very quick on the pitch, but off the pitch not always.” Wenger continued: “I always wanted to keep him and I still want to keep him.” “I want him to stay and […] Read more »
