Arsenal FC and Inter Milan are competing for the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro in the summer.

The 22-year-old started his career at Sao Paulo before being promoted to the first team in 2010. He made strong impressions in the debut season and even made his first appearance for the Brazilian national side in 2011 at the age of 19. Real Madrid signed him on in January last year and he made his debut for the B team in Segunda division, before making his La Liga debut for the first team in April last year. He has made nine appearance as a substitute this season under Carlo Ancelotti and made his first Champions League start in the match against Galatasaray, back in November.

His progress with the Spanish club hasn’t gone unnoticed and the Brazilian has drawn interest from both Inter Milan and Arsenal. However, his agent Joseph Lee has denied contacts with the Italian club In an interview earlier this month – although he didn’t rule out a move away from the Spanish capital at the end of this season.

“I do not know anything about Inter having contacted him. Casemiro is a Merengues player, and he’s just focused on that. There can be possible developments in May or June, However.” – Joseph Lee said in an interview.

Casemiro is a versatile holding midfielder, who can also play as a center back if need arise. Arsenal are expected to spend big in the summer and they are in need of a new defensive midfielder with Mikel Arteta’s future coming under increased speculations. Casemiro is known for his work rate and energy in the midfield and will provide good defensive cover for the Gunners at the center of the park. Arsenal have already scouted the youngster earlier this season and Arsene Wenger is believed to be interested in making a move for him, along with his Real Madrid team mate Alvaro Morata in double swoop.

The Gunners will however face competition from Italian side Inter Milan, who are also planning major investments in the summer. Walter Mazzarri is believed to be interested in signing the midfielder with Esteban Cambiasso reaching the fag end of his career. Casemiro’s current contract runs till 2017 and Real Madrid are unlikely to entertain any bid below €8 million for the Brazilian.
