Barcelona are interested in signing Chelsea striker Fernando Torres. Real Madrid joins the race to sign Edinson Cavani, while Manchester United closes in on Ezequiel Garay.
Barcelona Interested In Chelsea Striker Fernando Torres
Barcelona are reportedly lining up a move for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres with a £17 million bid. The Spanish side are believed to looking at Torres as a possible replacement for David Villa, who is expected to leave the club in the summer.
THT Verdict : Fernando Torres’ future has been in doubt since the arrival of Jose Mourinho. But the Portuguese manager has recently said that he is willing to stick with Torres and intends to get the best out of him. But with Chelsea’s interest in Cavani, it is hard to see the Spaniard being a regular at Stamford Bridge next season – although he is unlikely to get regular first team action at Barcelona as well, especially with the arrival Neymar.
From Torres’ point of view, a move to Napoli will seem to be a sensible decision at this point of his career. The Italian club are interested in signing him and with Rafa Benitez being the man-in-charge, Torres will find it easy to settle down at the club. Moreover, with Chelsea’s interest in Cavani, there is a big possibility of him being involved in a player plus cash deal.
Either way, a move to Barcelona seems highly unlikely for Fernando Torres. He will receive more playing time at Chelsea than at Catalan giants.
Real Madrid Joins The Race To Sign Edinson Cavani
Spanish giants Real Madrid have reportedly joined the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in the race to sign Napoli striker Edinson Cavani. According to reports Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has held a meeting with Cavan’s agent this week, something which was earlier postponed because of Mourinho’s departure and Perez’s involvement in presidential elections.
THT Verdict : Cavani is sure to leave Napoli this season, it is only a question of ‘where’. Chelsea and Manchester City are hot on the heels of the striker and now Real Madrid have joined the race. Napoli have already, reportedly, rejected a bid from Chelsea £40m plus Thibaut Courtois this week and the London club are expected to come back with an improved offer. The Italian club are unwilling negotiate the £53.6m release-clause in Cavani’s contract – which very few clubs can afford to pay at the moment. But Real Madrid are more than capable of investing that much money in a player, although there move might depend on a lot of other variables.
The Spanish club are also after Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and they are unlikely to sign two strikers in this transfer window. So it will be either Suarez or Cavani. The Liverpool striker will come at a cheaper price than his Uruguayan counterpart. The club is also facing questions about the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and Higuain, who is sure to leave this summer. At this moment though, despite Madrid and Manchester City’s interest, Chelsea are the front runners in the race for Cavani’s signature.
Manchester United Are Set To Complete The Signing Of Ezequiel Garay
English giants Manchester United are all set to complete their second signing this season. According to reports in Portugal, Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay is about to arrive at Old Trafford after both the clubs have reached an agreement.
THT Verdict : Garay has been linked with United since the January transfer window. Back then reports suggested that a deal is already in place between both the clubs and the defender will join United at the end of the season. The transfer fee involved in this move that being reported now is believed to be around £17million.
The 26-year-old has drawn a lot of attention from big European clubs this season. The former Real Madrid defender has excelled for Benfica last season as the Portuguese club came close to winning Liga Sagres and Europa League. Even though Rio Ferdinand and Vidic remains Sir Alex’s first choice center back pairing, they have entered the wrong side of thirties. Both Ferdinand (34) and Vidic (31) have been frequently injured in recent times and their fitness is a cause for concern, along with the likes of Smalling and Jones. Garay will be an impressive defensive back-up for David Moyes to have.
The 26-year-old is a classy defender who is good on the ball and has good experience in top level of football for his age. Although his positioning has come under criticism at times, he will definitely improve with age. Interestingly, Real Madrid will keep a close eye on the proceedings as the Spanish club is entitled for a percentage of the transfer fee involving Garay’s sale. But in all likelihood the transfer fee will be significantly less than the reported £17million – the figure is too high for a second/third choice defender.
