Barcelona’s Winning Streak Comes To A Halt With Goalless Draw Against Getafe

Barcelona trail Real Madrid by four points after match week 15 but the Blaugrana boss believes his side have time to catch the league leaders. Luis Enrique is confident that Barcelona still have plenty of time to catch La Liga leaders Real Madrid after being held to a 0-0 draw at Getafe on Saturday afternoon. Barcelona dominated possession for long periods at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, while Lionel Messi hit the crossbar with a brilliant free-kick but ultimately had to settle for a single point. Despite intense late pressure, Barca were unable to find a winner, meaning they end the weekend four points adrift of league leaders Madrid, who defeated Almeria on Friday night. Enrique, though, is calling for calm, arguing that Barca had simply felt the effects of their midweek win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. “It’s different when the team is fresh,” he told reporters after the draw with Getafe. “Also, we did not take advantage […] Read more »

FC Barcelona 3-1 PSG: Catalans Secure Top Spot In Group F

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique employed an asymmetric 3-2-3-2 formation, as the hosts responded to an early Zlatan Ibrahimovic strike with goals from Messi, Neymar and Suarez. Luis Enrique was a satisfied man after his tactics reaped rewards against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night with Barcelona winning 3-1 at Camp Nou to progress to the knockout stage of the Champions League as winners of Group F. The Catalans had gone into the game a point behind the French champions meaning that nothing less than a win would have been sufficient if they were to finish as group winners. They fell behind to an early goal from former player Zlatan Ibrahimovic but Lionel Messi promptly levelled matters before a sublime strike from Neymar and a second half goal from Luis Suarez settled the contest. Luis Enrique was glad that his decision to field an adventurous lineup was vindicated which was designed to make up for the loss of Dani Alves through suspension. […] Read more »

FC Barcelona v Paris Saint-Germain – Team News, Tactics, Line-ups And Prediction

FC BARCELONA v PSG Camp Nou, Barcelona Wednesday 11th Dec, 2014, 19:45 GMT  *** Barcelona host Paris Saint-Germain in a “winner takes all” final Champions League group game. PSG need only a draw to progress as group winners but coming to Camp Nou with such a mentality will be very risky and Laurent Blanc would be well advised not to sit back and play for one point. The French side need to start with a positive attitude and knock Barca out of their stride early in the game to ensure progression as the first-placed side, thereby potentially giving themselves an easier opponent in the next stage of the competition. Both clubs have already booked their place in the last 16 and PSG, who have a one-point advantage, need only avoid defeat to hold on to top spot. This is a game Barcelona simply have to win if they want to progress as group winners—a draw is good enough for the visitors, […] Read more »

Luis Enrique: PSG With Ibrahimovic Are One Of The Candidates For The Title

The Barcelona coach praised the Swedish forward but belives his side can defend as a unit and nullify Zlatan’s threat tonight. Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has admitted that PSG will be a bigger threat tonight with the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the starting lineup. The two sides battle it out in the final group game to determine who will finish top of the pool, with the French champions currently sitting a point above the Catalans thanks to a 3-2 win in the corresponding fixture earlier this season. Ibrahimovic missed that clash with an injury but is fit to face his former side after scoring a brace against Nantes on Saturday. Luis Enrique has admitted that although PSG showed against Barca that they are a very strong team without their talisman, they will be an even bigger challenge this time around with him available. “PSG beat us without Ibra. They are a potent side and with Ibra back fit, they […] Read more »
