‘If Higuain takes those two chances one year apart, is Messi the best player of all time?’ – Twitter Reacts To Argentina Defeat

Chile wrecked FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi’s dream of a first international title with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Argentina to end their 99-year wait for a Copa America crown on Saturday. Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez struck the winning spot-kick for Chile, as the hosts clinched a 4-1 shoot-out victory when the game ended goalless after extra time. In open play, Argentina had much of the better chances despite injury to Angel Di Maria, who was replaced by Gonzalo Higuain, rather than Carlos Tevez. And  Gonzalo Higuain continued his woeful record in finals after missing a guilt-edged chance in the 2014 World Cup Final, the player was at it in the 92nd minute. While Lavezzi’s ball in wasn’t as good as it possibly could have been, Higuain was slated on the social media, again, as he was blamed for being the main culprit for stopping Lionel Messi’s march to become the undisputed greatest player of all time by winning, first, the World Cup, and now, […] Read more »

Lionel Messi’s Downfall Plotted By Fellow Argentine Sampaoli

It took an Argentine, Jorge Sampaoli, to plot Chile’s triumph in the Copa America final against his own country. Lionel Messi and Argentina’s other “Fantasticos” lost their nerve in Santiago’s Estadio Nacional as they sought their first major international title for 22 years. Chile’s coach Sampaoli stayed true to his live wire reputation, jumping up and down on the touchline urging stars Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal to attack so they could win their first South American championship. “We had to play a great game against one of the world’s best teams for the quality of players. We should have won in 90 minutes, but ended up getting justice in a shootout,” Sampaoli told a press conference after Saturday’s win in Sangtiago. Since taking over, Sampaoli, 55, has transformed Chile’s national side into true global competitors. As well as Saturday’s South American title, Chile also reached the last 16 at last year’s World Cup and were unlucky not to go […] Read more »

I Regret Rejecting Manchester United : Argentina Superstar Juan Roman Riquelme

Argentina superstar Juan Roman Riquelme has confirmed that Manchester United were eager to sign him in 2006 before Villarreal played Arsenal FC in the semi finals of the Champions League. As per reports by Mundo Deportivo, the former FC Barcelona playmaker revealed that he turned down a move from Manchester United, citing it as as his only regret of a career littered with fantastic moments. Riquelme, 37, is now retired, but during his peak, he was widely recognised as one of the most gifted Argentina players of his generation and almost single handedly carried Villarreal to the Champions League final in 2006 only for a late missed penalty. The playmaker was a youth prodigy at Boca Juniors and his consistently excellent performances earned him a move to La Liga giants FC Barcelona. However, things did not quite fall into place for Riquelme at Camp Nou as he endured a very frustrating time in the Catalan capital. The playmaker was managed by Louis van Gaal, the […] Read more »
