Manchester United are reportedly planning a sensational swoop for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, also a target for Chelsea.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of England captain Harry Kane, who has reinvented himself under the guidance of Antonio Conte in North London. Kane is also a target for Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Manchester United have been searching for a suitable number nine, and Kane fits the bill perfectly. The England international has propelled himself in the last few seasons and has emerged as an obvious choice for a number of big clubs, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, and others.

Manchester City had been a keen admirer of the player, and Pep Guardiola had wanted to have a perfect goal poacher at his disposal in the summer of 2021. But Tottenham rejected all of Manchester City’s advances as they were adamant to provide Kane with all the amenities. And their steep valuation also proved to be a massive barrier for the English champions.

With the arrival of Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s door has now been shut permanently, and their arch-rival Manchester United now are ready to make Kane their next high-profile signing in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Kane’s current contract runs out in 2024, and talks for a new contract have not taken place yet. Antonio Conte has built his regime by having Kane at the bedrock of his success at Tottenham, and losing him would hurt the ambitions of the former Chelsea manager very badly.

Bayern Munich have not managed to replace Robert Lewandowski’s goals this season since his departure to Barcelona, and they view the England skipper as the perfect replacement for the Polish forward. Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is only a short-term solution for Chelsea, with the former Arsenal captain well into his thirties.

Currently, there is a dearth of a top-notch striker at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag still is not convinced with his attacking firepower and has advised the management to fill in the void. Marcus Rashford has been tried through the middle, but inconsistency has negated his potential in the last few seasons, while Cristiano Ronaldo is approaching his final years.

Tottenham will likely demand a hefty sum for the 29-year-old, who will also enter his peak years. Kane has been in free scoring form in the last few seasons, but Spurs’ inability to challenge for any major trophy would make him think twice before committing his long term future with the club.

The arrival of the new manager could entice Kane to Manchester United’s project as the former Ajax boss is renowned for his ability to transform a player’s fortune very quickly. But with Chelsea and Bayern Munich also in the hunt, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can succeed in the pursuit of the Tottenham attacker.
