Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly edging closer to sealing a move to Chelsea, with his Barcelona stint likely to end after just six months.

According to reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Chelsea’s efforts to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the ongoing transfer window will soon bear fruits. The Blues are on the verge of completing the signing of the Barcelona attacker in a deal worth €20 million plus add-ons, with the agreement being imminent.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was an instant hit at FC Barcelona after arriving at Camp Nou in a free transfer earlier this year. The former Arsenal captain had hit the ground running and ended the 2021/22 campaign as Barcelona’s top scorer despite only playing 23 games in the second half of the season.

But Aubameyang’s stature at Camp Nou has fallen in the ongoing transfer window following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski. The 33-year-old has thus become the second-choice striker for FC Barcelona and has only made one substitute appearance thus far. And Aubameyang’s stint with the Blaugrana might end after just six months, with Chelsea looking to secure his services.

The interest from Chelsea has come in the wake of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner’s departures from Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel has been dependent on Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz as his primary goalscorers since then. But the duo has struggled to produce the goods in the early stages of the 2022/23 season.

Chelsea’s need to sign a recognised striker has thus accentuated in the last few days, particularly in the wake of the chastening that Leeds United handed them last weekend. And Aubameyang has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, with the Blues in talks with Barcelona to seal a deal.

Chelsea recently submitted a proposal that included Barcelona target, Marcos Alonso. But the Catalan giants want to sign the Spanish full-back in a separate deal and have negotiated a move worth €20 million for Aubameyang with the Blues. And the Barcelona attacker is now on the verge of joining the west London club.

Chelsea had even considered re-signing Alvaro Morata if a move for Aubameyang did not go through. But it looks like the Barcelona striker will end his stint with the Blaugrana after only six months, with Stamford Bridge his next destination in a deal worth €20 million plus bonuses.
