Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly set to approach Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang again over a possible summer move.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea will soon meet Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s representatives for a new round of talks. Todd Boehly wants to understand what the Gabonese forward will demand to leave Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window, with the Blaugrana demanding €30 million for him.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a player reborn since joining Barcelona from Arsenal nearly six months ago. After reaching rock bottom in his professional career due to Mikel Arteta’s decision to banish him from the Arsenal squad, he rediscovered his best form in the second half of the 2022/23 season, finishing the campaign as Barcelona’s joint top scorer.

But the 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou this summer, with Robert Lewandowski’s arrival from Bayern Munich relegating him to become the second-choice striker for Barcelona. Aubameyang did not start Barcelona’s season-opening game against Rayo Vallecano, and he might leave the Catalan club this month amid interest from Chelsea.

The Blues are desperately scouring the market for a striker in the ongoing transfer window after letting Romelu Lukaku return to Inter Milan on loan. In addition, with Timo Werner rejoining RB Leipzig, Thomas Tuchel does not have a recognised striker at his disposal, compelling the Chelsea boss to utilise Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling centrally.

While Tuchel has Armando Broja at his disposal, the Albanian international has some way to go before he can become the first-choice striker for Chelsea. Aubameyang has thus emerged on the west London club’s radar over a possible summer move. And Chelsea will soon meet the Barcelona forward for a new round of talks.

Recent reports have claimed that Aubameyang does not want to leave Barcelona and has no interest in joining Chelsea. Xavi Hernandez also does not want to lose the former Arsenal captain, even though the Catalan giants have slapped a €30 million price tag on him. But Todd Boehly wants to meet Aubameyang’s representatives to understand his conditions to leave Barcelona.

Chelsea might not have any qualms about shelling out €30 million to sign the Gabonese attacker, even though he is well into his thirties. But while Chelsea will likely meet Barcelona’s valuation, convincing the player to depart from Camp Nou might be an uphill task.
