Bayern Munich plot move to sign Frenkie de Jong

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are reportedly plotting a last-ditch move to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Frenkie de Jong is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich over a possible late move in the ongoing transfer window. Barcelona will look to get the Dutch midfielder off the books in the final days of the summer.

Frenkie de Jong finds himself in a rock and a hard place at FC Barcelona. While he does not want to depart from Camp Nou before the summer transfer window shuts down, the Catalan giants wish to get him off their books to lighten their wage bill and register Jules Kounde and possible future signings.

But if de Jong stays at FC Barcelona, the issue of deferred wages might be a stumbling block. And de Jong’s declining status at the Catalan club has been reflected in the early stages of the 2022/23 season, as he only started a game when Sergio Busquets was unavailable due to a suspension. But the player’s predicament might end soon, with Bayern Munich showing interest in him.

The latest development contradicts claims from recent reports, which suggested that Bayern Munich did not want to sign de Jong this summer. And the recently-emerging interest is surprising, considering the Bundesliga champions have added to their midfield department by signing Ryan Gravenberch.

With Marcel Sabitzer going nowhere, Julian Nagelsmann has four quality central midfielders at his disposal. So it is hard to see how de Jong will fit in the scheme of things, with Leon Goretzka forging a solid partnership with Joshua Kimmich in the middle of the park. Nonetheless, as per the Spanish outlet, the Barcelona midfielder is on Bayern Munich’s radar.

Recent reports have claimed that de Jong prefers to join Bayern Munich instead of any other suitor. But as per reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Bavarian giants are not interested in signing the Barcelona midfielder in the summer transfer window.

So de Jong’s predicament will not go away anytime soon, and Barcelona will unlikely get him off the books before the ongoing transfer window shuts down. And what also remains certain is that Bayern Munich will not sign de Jong this summer.
