Frenkie de Jong will only leave Barcelona for Bayern Munich

Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong will reportedly leave Barcelona only if he can join Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Frenkie de Jong is clear in his idea that he will only leave Barcelona if he can join Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. The Dutch midfielder is a target for Manchester United, with Chelsea also weighing up a possible move.

Frenkie de Jong might feel that he has become the scapegoat for Barcelona’s financial woes and FFP issues. The Catalan giants have seen their troubles ease up thanks to the activation of the economic levers. But Barcelona cannot register the new signings until they sell a few players and lighten the wage bill.

That has brought Frenkie de Jong into the picture, as the 25-year-old is Barcelona’s most valuable asset. At the same time, de Jong is due to earn higher wages starting from the 2022/23 season after letting Barcelona defer his wages due to their financial crisis. So, with the Blaugrana owing him around €17 million in payments, the player is naturally reluctant to leave.

The Dutch midfielder unsurprisingly has no shortage of suitors this summer, considering he is one of the best in his trade. However, amid rampant interest from Manchester United, de Jong has been hesitant to move to Old Trafford, even though the Red Devils are ready to offer him a lucrative contract.

The Barcelona midfielder’s representatives have reportedly offered him to Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, with the two European bigwigs also showing interest in signing him. But de Jong does not want to join Manchester United, Chelsea or PSG, as his preferred destination is Bayern Munich.

While the 25-year-old will still prefer to remain at Camp Nou, he will push to join Bayern Munich if his situation at FC Barcelona becomes untenable. But the Bundesliga champions have not shown any interest in him, with Konrad Laimer their preferred target.
