Juan Foyth is reportedly keen on joining Barcelona this summer, with Villarreal demanding €42 million for the Argentine defender.

According to a report by Argentine outlet TyC Sports, Juan Foyth has handed Barcelona a boost in his chase as he wants to join the Blaugrana in the ongoing transfer window. Villarreal will demand around €42 million to part ways with the Argentine defender this summer.

Juan Foyth has found a stable footing for the first time since arriving in Europe following his move to Villarreal. The 24-year-old had managed only 30 appearances in three seasons with Tottenham, with none of the north London club’s managers fancying him much. But he has rediscovered his best form after joining Villarreal.

The Yellow Submarine initially signed him on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 season before completing a permanent transfer last summer. And the Argentine defender has been a mainstay at the back for Villarreal in the last 18 months, turning out 71 times for them. Foyth’s exploits have not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona keen on signing him this summer.

Barcelona entered the summer transfer window with the objective of signing a new right-back after Dani Alves departed from Camp Nou as a free agent last month. And with Sergino Dest not in Xavi Hernandez’s plans, Barcelona’s need to sign a new right-sided full-back has accentuated further.

Cesar Azpilicueta had thus popped up on Barcelona’s radar as a viable target. But the Chelsea captain snubbed Barcelona by signing a new contract with Chelsea, compelling the Blaugrana to scour the market for alternatives. The interest in Foyth does make sense.

But Foyth will not come cheap, with Villarreal demanding around €42 million to part ways with him. However, Barcelona’s hopes of signing the Argentine defender might have risen, with the report by TyC Sports claiming that he is keen on joining the Catalan club before the summer transfer window shuts down.

The €42 million price tag might pose a problem for Barcelona, but they will likely look to negotiate the transfer fee to an acceptable sum. For now, Foyth’s eagerness to join Barcelona has changed the dynamics of this transfer story as we enter the last two weeks of the summer window.
