La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly scheduled talks with the representatives of 24-year-old Argentine right-back Juan Foyth.

According to Luca Bendoni, Juan Foyth is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants will soon meet the representatives of 24-year-old right-back to explore the possibility of a transfer ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Juan Foyth has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Villarreal from Tottenham. The Spanish club initially signed the Argentine defender on loan for the 2020/21 season before completing a permanent transfer last summer. And the player has not looked back since then, establishing himself as a mainstay at the back at El Madrigal.

The 24-year-old has turned out 70 times for Villarreal thus far, chipping in with two goals and three assists. And Foyth’s performances for the Yellow Submarine have earned him a recall to the Argentine national side while capturing the attention of some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe, including Barcelona.

Barcelona will delve into the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window after Dani Alves recently announced that he would depart from Camp Nou for the second time on July 1. The veteran Brazilian defender’s second stint with Barcelona did not even last a year, and his exit will again leave Barcelona scouring the market for his replacement.

In addition, Sergino Dest faces an uncertain future at the Catalan club after failing to impress Xavi Hernandez in the second half of the 2021/22 season. But Alves’s departure might prompt Barcelona to keep Dest at Camp Nou beyond the summer transfer window. Nonetheless, the Blaugrana will need to bring in a right-back this summer, with Cesar Azpilicueta among their targets.

But with Chelsea scrambling to keep hold of the Spaniard, Barcelona will need to keep a contingency plan in place. Foyth has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, who will soon initiate introductive talks with the 24-year-old’s agent to explore the possibility of a summer move.

It is unclear if the Argentine international is open to joining Barcelona, where he might not feature as prominently as at Villarreal. With the 2022 FIFA World Cup less than a year away, a summer transfer might not see the light of day, and the Catalan giants could have to set their sights on alternatives.
