Newcastle United are interested in Rennes star Gaetan Laborde, who could be allowed to leave for the right price.

According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle United have expressed an interest in Gaetan Laborde, who could be allowed to depart Rennes for the right price. The arrival of Arnaud Kalimuendo could be the reason for the French side’s readiness to sanction a departure, although there are question marks about the forward’s form.

Newcastle United are focusing on attacking reinforcements before the transfer deadline at the end of the month. Eddie Howe is eyeing players that would improve his options in the final third, with a winger and a striker being targeted.

Newcastle United have been searching the French market in their pursuit of a new attacking player and have been linked with multiple options over the course of the summer.

The Ligue 1 market has become a breeding ground for exciting strikers over the last few seasons. Talents like Hugo Ekitike and Arnaud Kalimuendo have been on the radars of Newcastle but have already moved clubs. Rennes signed the latter from PSG, which has opened the door at the club for the possible departures of at least two of their current forwards.

Serhou Guirassy has been linked with a move to Everton, while Gaetan Laborde is also a potential target for another Premier League club in the form of Newcastle. The Magpies are keen on the latter despite him having a terrible end to the second half of last season, scoring only once since the turn of the year.

Laborde is said to be available for €20-25 million, which may be deemed reasonable by Magpies. However, owing to the striker’s bad form last season, they might still look to drive the price down. Newcastle United have been cautious with their spending this summer and will assess carefully before splashing the cash on the 28-year-old striker.

The next few days will be crucial for Newcastle as they will be keen to strengthen the squad. With just two weeks left before the transfer window slams shut, whether they sign Laborde remains to be seen.
