Everton have reportedly intensified negotiations with Rennes to sign striker Serhou Guirassy on loan with an option to buy.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Everton have stepped up their efforts to secure the signing of Rennes striker Serhou Guirassy, with the Toffees reportedly looking for a loan deal with an option for purchase.

Guirassy has spent almost his entire career in France, barring a stint in Germany with 1. FC Koln between 2016 and 2019. He has had spells with the likes of LOSC Lille, AJ Auxerre and Amiens, whom he left in 2020 to join Rennes. In his two years with the club, the 26-year-old has managed a tally of 25 goals and four assists from 80 appearances.

While those are not special numbers, it seems like Guirassy has done enough to attract admirers from Premier League giants Everton. The Toffees are desperate to sign a new striker before the transfer window closes as they have no viable backup for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the No. 9 role, apart from a misfiring Salomon Rondon.

Furthermore, the England international has himself endured an injury-riddled time over the past year or so and is currently sidelined for over a month. With Calvert-Lewin unavailable, manager Frank Lampard was forced to utilise Anthony Gordon in the centre-forward role in Everton’s Premier League opener against Chelsea.

Hence, the Everton manager is intent on adding another option to his centre-forward department, leading to links with several strikers in the market such as Chelsea youngster Armando Broja, Southampton forward Che Adams, and more recently, Rennes’ Serhou Guirassy.

As iterated earlier, Guirassy has not exactly been a prolific performer for Rennes in the two years he has been at the club. However, the 26-year-old can be an imposing presence in the box, standing over 6ft1in tall, and is strong in aerial duels while also being able to execute neat link-up play in and around the box.

It has seemingly convinced Everton to take a punt on the three-time capped Guinean international this summer. And as per Fabrice Hawkins, Everton have intensified negotiations with Rennes to get the deal over the line. The Merseyside club wish to sign the striker on a loan deal with an option to purchase. However, Rennes would like to sell Guirassy permanently right away.

So, it will be interesting to see whether Everton end up signing Guirassy from the Brittany-based outfit or decide to look elsewhere to reinforce their attacking unit.
