Barcelona could reportedly look to sign Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot before the summer transfer window shuts down.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Diogo Dalot has popped up on the radar of Barcelona over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. The Catalan giants have drawn up a shortlist consisting of five right-backs, with the Manchester United defender among their top targets.

Diogo Dalot got heaps of praise from Jose Mourinho when he joined Manchester United from FC Porto nearly four years ago. But the 23-year-old is yet to fulfil his potential at Old Trafford, with his best campaign in the last four years coming on loan at AC Milan in the 2020/21 season.

The Portuguese international has seemingly usurped Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Manchester United this year but has remained unconvincing in his two outings thus far in the 2022/23 season. However, Dalot has captured the attention of a few high-profile clubs in Europe, with Barcelona among the clubs keen on signing him.

Manchester United recently attempted to use Dalot as a makeweight to sign Sergino Dest from FC Barcelona. And Dest’s uncertain future at Camp Nou has coincidentally compelled Barcelona to consider signing a potential replacement, with five right-backs popping up on their radar.

The Catalan giants are showing interest in Jeremie Frimpong, Juan Foyth, and Thomas Meunier, with Dalot also emerging as a viable target. Dalot’s Manchester United teammate Aaron Wan-Bissaka also features on Barcelona’s wishlist, with the Blaugrana yet to zero in on the top candidate among the quintet.

Dalot’s qualities might make him a solid fit in Xavi Hernandez’s system, but his shortcomings in the defensive phases could be a factor to consider for Barcelona. Nonetheless, it looks like the 23-year-old Manchester United defender features prominently as a target for Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window.

Considering Manchester United recently tried to use Dalot in the deal to sign Dest from Barcelona, the Red Devils might not stop the Portuguese international from leaving. But the Blaugrana will need to submit an enticing enough offer to prise Dalot from Manchester United before the summer transfer window shuts down.
