Atletico Madrid are keeping a keen eye on out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon this summer.

According to Fichajes, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are keeping tabs on Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Spurs left-back was one of the best young players during his season on loan at Sevilla from Real Madrid in 2019/20, following which he moved to England. He has shown glimpses of ability after moving to Tottenham, but his performances have fallen short of expectations. Antonio Conte’s arrival has more or less seen him fall down the pecking order.

Reguilon is yet to play a single minute for Tottenham this season, with Conte banishing him from the first-team training. And his time at the N 17 is at an end. A return to Spain could be on the cards with Atletico Madrid interested.

Diego Simeone’s side could be set to lose Renan Lodi to Manchester City, opening up space on their roster for a replacement. Reguilon is one of the players under consideration as the summer transfer window enters its final few weeks.

A transfer fee of around €25 million should see the 25-year-old make the move to Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico can afford to pay the price given that Manchester City could fork out about €50 million for Lodi. Capable in defence and electric going forward, the Spaniard would be a good addition to Simeone’s roster, despite his past association with Real Madrid.

Reguilon is familiar with La Liga and should not need much time to reacquaint himself with the league’s demands. Given that the season is already underway, it makes Simeone’s job of integrating him into the team all the easier.

The full-back came through the ranks at rivals Real Madrid before going on to make a name for himself elsewhere. Whether this association with Los Blancos will prove to be a determining factor remains to be seen.

Tottenham brought in Ivan Perisic this summer, and the Croatian has immediately leap-logged Reguilon in Conte’s pecking order. Ryan Sessegnon is currently the first choice at left-back while Ben Davies is another option. So, there is no chance that the ex-Real Madrid ace will be staying at the north London outfit beyond the summer.

Several players like Thibaut Courtois, Marcos Llorente and Alvaro Morata have gone on to represent both the Madrid sides in recent years. Reguilon could very well join that list should Lodi make the move to the Etihad. The Spaniard’s hopes of returning to Spain could all depend on whether Manchester City make their move.
