Ivan Perisic has officially become Tottenham Hotspur’s first signing of the summer transfer window, with the Croat set to complete a Bosman move in July.

Tottenham Hotspur have made an official statement to confirm that they have reached an agreement to sign Ivan Perisic in the summer transfer window. The Croatian international will join Spurs on July 1, completing a Bosman move after his deal with Inter Milan runs out.

Ivan Perisic has been a journeyman in his long professional career, representing seven clubs thus far in the last decade and a half. The 33-year-old started at Sochaux and played in Belgium and Germany before joining Inter Milan in August 2015. The veteran wide man’s stint with the Serie A giants was largely fruitful, although there were times when he had to battle for his spot in the side.

Perisic’s best phase as an Inter Milan player came in the last two seasons. He played a pivotal role in their Serie A title triumph under Antonio Conte in 2020/21 before becoming a talismanic figure this past term. The Croat chipped in with ten goals and nine assists, with Inter Milan winning two trophies.

But as the months wore on in the 2021/22 season, it became increasingly clear that Perisic wanted to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. The veteran Croatian international has decided to call time on his stint with Inter Milan, with Tottenham his next destination.

The 33-year-old was on the radars of several high profile European clubs, with Chelsea once closing in on securing his services. But the tables turned once Tottenham entered the picture, with Antonio Conte wielding his influence to bring Spurs closer to landing Perisic in a Bosman move.

Tottenham took no time to reach an agreement with Perisic, and the transfer is now official, less than ten days after Spurs’ emergence in the race to sign him. The Croatian international has become Tottenham’s first signing of the summer transfer window, signing a two-year contract with the north London club.

Perisic will likely arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a solution for the left wing-back spot, which has been a position of concern for Conte. But if Perisic manages to remain consistent, he will soon make the slot his own in the 2022/23 season.
