Premier League heavyweights Chelsea have reportedly prepared a bid to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona this summer.

According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Chelsea’s search for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku has taken them to Barcelona. The Blues have reportedly readied an offer to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the ongoing transfer window, with other options also on their radar.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became an instant hit upon joining Barcelona in the January transfer window for a free transfer. The 33-year-old had left Arsenal in disgrace despite winning the Golden Boot in his first complete season with the north London club. But the former Arsenal captain took no time to prove his worth at FC Barcelona.

The Gabonese striker was in top form in the second half of the 2021/22 season, finding the back of the net 13 times in 23 games for Barcelona. But Aubameyang is staring at an uncertain future at Camp Nou, with the Blaugrana ready to cash in on him in the summer transfer window. Such a situation has captured the attention of Chelsea.

The interest from Chelsea stems from their inability to find a replacement for Romelu Lukaku thus far. The Belgian international has rejoined Inter Milan on a loan deal and will unlikely kick a ball again for Chelsea in his career. But while Lukaku has departed from Stamford Bridge, a new striker is yet to join Chelsea.

Raheem Sterling joined the west London club from Manchester City earlier in the summer transfer window, but the English international is not a natural striker. With Michy Batshuayi being surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and Armando Broja’s future up in the air, Chelsea will need to delve into the market for a recognised striker.

Aubameyang has thus emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, although reports have claimed that the Barcelona striker is uninterested in joining the Blues. But that is seemingly not a deterrent for Chelsea, with the west Londoners reportedly preparing an offer to sign the January signing from Barcelona.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona will respond favourably when the Blues present their bid to sign Aubameyang. With the Blaugrana set to hold talks with the former Arsenal captain to discuss his future, a move to Chelsea might still be on the cards.
