Everton have reportedly approached Barcelona forward Memphis Depay over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

According to Spanish publication SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Everton are among the clubs keeping tabs on Barcelona forward Memphis Depay for a move in the summer transfer window. The Toffees have reportedly approached the Dutch forward to discuss a move in the ongoing window.

Memphis Depay moved to Barcelona just last summer on a free transfer after running down his contract with Lyon. The Netherlands international even took a pay cut to join the Catalan club and started off brilliantly as the leader of the team’s attack.

However, the Blaugrana were eager to add more firepower and signed both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres in the January window, pushing Depay down the pecking order. He has now been reportedly labelled as surplus to requirements and could be shipped off in the ongoing window.

Barcelona themselves are eager to offload a few players to make space in the wage bill to register new signings ahead of the season. The Blaugrana have so far been unable to register any of their new summer acquisitions and are now desperately trying to sell some of their players, including Depay.

The 28-year-old, however, is clear that he will only move to a top club where he is handed an important role. Multiple Premier League clubs have been linked with Depay, including Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Everton.

He has so far turned down the opportunity to join Spurs whereas rumours of a possible return to Old Trafford have died down recently. Everton have now emerged as potential suitors and are discussing a possible summer move with Depay, who is now in the final year of his contract with the Catalan giants.

The player’s entourage met Barcelona representatives recently and while the club are ready to offer Depay an extension, the player is clear that he will only get limited opportunities with the Catalan giants, who have also signed Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha in the ongoing window.

But it is also stated in the report by SPORT that Depay favours a move to Juventus but is still studying every offer that comes his way.
