La Liga giants Sevilla are reportedly plotting a move for Manchester United defender Eric Bailly.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, La Liga giants Sevilla have joined the race to sign Manchester United outcast Eric Bailly. The Ivorian defender has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford in recent times and is seeking a summer exit from the Premier League club.

Eric Bailly joined Manchester United from Villarreal in the 2016 summer transfer window and had a successful first season before recurring injury issues derailed his stint at Old Trafford. The Ivory Coast international showed flashes of brilliance but found himself on the treatment table more than on the field.

After making 25 Premier League appearances in his first season for the club, his numbers came down drastically. The club also signed up the likes of Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane in the seasons that followed, further pushing Bailly down the pecking order at Manchester United.

The 28-year-old made just seven appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils last season despite signing an extension with them ahead of the start of the 2021/22 campaign. Bailly was reportedly close to leaving the club on a free last summer before penning a new three-year deal with Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have signed Argentine centre-back Lisandro Martinez from Ajax this summer, which could further limit the former Villarreal defender’s game time. Things have now again come a full circle for Bailly, who is nearing an exit from Old Trafford again, with multiple clubs showing interest to secure his services.

Jose Mourinho is said to be interested in reuniting with Bailly at AS Roma, with the Manchester United defender his first signing at the Premier League club. Newly-promoted Premier League outfit Fulham have also submitted an offer for the Ivory Coast international.

La Liga giants Sevilla have now entered the race after seeing star defender Jules Kounde join Barcelona this summer. They have identified Bailly as a possible replacement and his low price tag interests the Andalusian club, who are also discussing a move for Alex Telles with Manchester United. Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon is also on Sevilla’s transfer radar.
