Riqui Puig is reportedly on the verge of ending his misery at FC Barcelona, with LA Galaxy reaching an agreement to sign the Spanish midfielder.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Riqui Puig’s stint with Barcelona will end soon, with the Blaugrana reaching an agreement with LA Galaxy over a summer move. The Spanish midfielder had already verbally agreed to join the Major League Soccer club, with only finer details left to be ironed out.

Riqui Puig has endured a dramatic fall from grace since breaking into the Barcelona first-team squad a few years ago. The 22-year-old, a graduate of the club’s famed academy La Masia, seemed destined to become a first-team regular at Camp Nou when Quique Setien utilised him fairly regularly.

But Puig’s stock plummeted once Ronald Koeman took charge of Barcelona ahead of the 2020/21 season. And the Spaniard did not resurrect his stuttering career under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez either, managing only 544 minutes of game-time across 18 appearances for Barcelona in the 2021/22 campaign.

The ascent of Gavi and Nico Gonzalez had already impacted Puig’s standing at FC Barcelona. And he has dropped down the pecking order further following Franck Kessie’s arrival in a Bosman move this summer. So speculation surrounding the youngster’s future has grown like wildfire, with recent reports claiming he is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou. And his next destination seems to be the MLS.

LA Galaxy first showed interest in the out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder last week before quickly jumping the queue of suitors vying for the player’s signature. And Puig had been considering joining the MLS giants this week. But he will not be one of the designated players at LA Galaxy, with Javier Hernandez, Douglas Costa and Kevin Cabral already occupying those spots.

The MLS giants have moved quickly in the pursuit of the 22-year-old, with Fabrizio Romano claiming they have reached an agreement with Barcelona over a move for the player in the summer transfer window. The Italian journalist has claimed that the two clubs need to sort out the finer details before announcing the deal.

Meanwhile, Puig has already verbally agreed to join LA Galaxy, and a move to the MLS is now on the horizon for him. The Spaniard will hope he can finally resurrect his flailing career after struggling to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at FC Barcelona in the last couple of years.
