Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig is reportedly considering a summer move to Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig is considering a move to Major League Soccer by joining LA Galaxy. The American club are said to be heavily interested in the 22-year-old and just have two days left to register new players.

A Barcelona youth product, the 22-year-old midfielder rose through the ranks at the club’s famed academy La Masia and made his first-team debut in the 2018/19 season. While he has been in and around the senior squad since, Puig has failed to cement a starting spot.

In all, the Spanish midfielder has made 56 appearances for the Barcelona first team, scoring twice and assisting three goals. However, going forward, he doesn’t feature in manager Xavi’s plans and the Blaugrana are thus eager to offload him this summer with just a year remaining on his contract.

LA Galaxy have emerged as the favourites for his signature after showing interest in the youngster along with some other MLS clubs. The Barcelona midfielder is said to be ‘close to accepting’ LA Galaxy’s proposal and moving to the American top-flight, with the Los Angeles-based club planning on taking the next step.

MLS has long been a tournament for European footballers to join for their last big contract. However, the clubs are now focusing on buying young talents as well, and signing Puig would be a step in that direction.

Barcelona are aware of LA Galaxy’s interest in the 22-year-old midfielder and will not stand in his way should he decide to move away from Camp Nou. The Catalan giants will, however, want to include a buy-back clause in his contract.

The Spaniard has also attracted interest from the likes of FC Porto and Valencia, but those clubs seem to have dropped their interest in the midfielder, who now looks set for a move to the USA. It would be interesting to see whether the Barcelona outcast will be a big hit in the MLS.
