Barcelona forward Memphis Depay is reportedly in talks with the Catalan club over a possible exit in the summer transfer window.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona forward Memphis Depay could leave the Catalan club after joining them just last year and is currently discussing a summer exit from Camp Nou with the Blaugrana.

Memphis Depay arrived at Camp Nou last summer in a free transfer from Lyon and was expected to lead the line for the Catalan giants, who had just lost talisman Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain following the expiration of his Barcelona contract.

The Dutchman hit the ground running immediately and had a good first half of the season. However, the arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres in the January transfer window pushed him down the pecking order at Barcelona in the second half of the campaign, and he could now be nearing a permanent exit with a year remaining on his contract.

The Catalan giants have signed Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha in the ongoing summer transfer window and also re-signed Ousmane Dembele on a new deal. This would leave Depay with limited game-time opportunities at Barcelona heading into the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

As per Fabrizio Romano, depay and his entourage are currently negotiating a summer exit from Camp Nou on a free transfer. None of the interested clubs are ready to pay the €20 million that Barcelona are hoping for, leaving no option for the Catalan club to lower their demand.

However, the 28-year-old is determined to leave Barcelona only if he finds the right club, where he would be amongst the more important players. Moreover, Depay is only willing to leave for a ‘top’ club with a clear project in mind.

So far, the Dutch forward has been linked with a move to Juventus, with the player’s entourage reportedly offering him to the Serie A club. Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in signing Depay, but he has chosen against joining the north London club.

Manchester United were also linked with a move to re-sign Memphis Depay from Barcelona, but there has not been much development in that transfer saga since the reports first surfaced.
