Everton and PSG are reportedly in advanced discussions for the transfer of Idrissa Gueye, who is unwanted at the Ligue 1 club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are in advanced talks to re-sign Idrissa Gueye from PSG, with the 32-year-old midfielder surplus to requirements at the Ligue 1 club. The move could be a loan deal or a permanent transfer, which should be clearer in the coming days.

Idrissa Gueye has had a fruitful time at PSG since joining them from Everton in the summer of the 2019 . The Senegalese midfielder has been a consistent presence under several managers in Paris, but his time at the French capital is likely to end.

Since the arrival of Luis Campos as their new sporting director, Les Parisiens are undergoing several structural changes, which involve getting rid of players deemed unwanted for the upcoming project. Few of them include Mauro Icardi, Georginio Wijnaldum and Gueye, among others.

As things stand, AS Roma are negotiating a deal for Wijnaldum, while Everton angle a return for midfielder Gueye. Whether the Toffees want their former star on loan or a permanent deal remains to be seen, but things could get clearer in the coming days.

Gueye spent three years at Everton before joining PSG. The 32-year-old is keen on sealing a move back to Merseyside, and Frank Lampard is desperate for experienced midfielders ahead of the new season. Gueye would represent a good option, with Everton being offered the chance to sign him earlier in the month by PSG.

The Toffees have advanced talks with the Ligue 1 giants as a deal nears completion. Gueye would be a short-term but essential signing for Everton ahead of the new season, where many have already written them off following a dismal pre-season campaign.

Lampard is already eyeing up several other moves, including the idea of bringing back another one of their former players. Everton are in advanced talks to re-sign Ross Barkley from Chelsea, while they are on the chase to signing Maxwel Cornet from Burnley.

The Toffees will be hoping to seal the signing of Gueye soon and then focus on other targets as the season starts on the coming weekend. There is still plenty of time before the transfer window shuts. But by the time the deadline arrives, the Premier League would have been well into the season.
