Manchester United are reportedly preparing an official bid to try and sign Benjamin Sesko from Red Bull Salzburg this summer.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Manchester United are working on an official offer for Red Bull Salzburg and Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko as they look to add more firepower to their attack.

Sesko is widely regarded as one of the hottest attacking prospects in all of Europe even though he is at the nascent stages of his professional career. The 19-year-old joined Salzburg in 2019 and spent the next two seasons playing for FC Liefering, who serve as the Austrian giants’ reserve team. He scored 22 and assisted six goals in 44 matches for them.

Since making his first-team debut in 2021, Sesko has grown into a regular for Salzburg and has accumulated a tally of 12 goals and eight assists from 38 games across all competitions. Despite his young age, he is already a regular in the Slovenian national team and has earned 13 caps for himself.

Sesko’s potential and goalscoring prowess has put him on the radars of several giants across Europe. Real Madrid have been monitoring the teenage forward, while the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked in the recent past. Manchester United, too, have emerged as a serious suitor for the young centre-forward this summer.

Manchester United need a new No. 9 as Cristiano Ronaldo’s future continues to be shrouded in uncertainty. While the Portuguese international is set to return to action in the pre-season fixture against Rayo Vallecano, whether he will remain at the club beyond the summer is still unclear.

Even if he stays, Manchester United would be well-advised to add another striker to their roster as Ronaldo is 37, and his contract expires next year. Anthony Martial’s pre-season form is a welcome sign, but the Red Devils will need plenty of ammunition in their attacking arsenal if they wish to challenge the top teams.

It has led them to Sesko as a potential target, with talks already being held with his camp to explore the possibility of a transfer. And now, according to Rudy Galetti, Manchester United are planning an official offer for the 19-year-old forward, whose contract runs until the summer of 2026.

The journalist states that Red Bull Salzburg would ideally want to keep Sesko at the club for another season. However, there is a possibility that the young striker could be on the move this summer. Whether Manchester United’s offer is enough to convince the Austrians to part ways with Sesko will be interesting to see.
