Benjamin Pavard is reportedly open to joining Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel continues to find solutions to strengthen his defensive ranks.

According to Christian Falk, Benjamin Pavard is open to joining Chelsea, who are looking at the Frenchman as a target among several players. Thomas Tuchel remains keen to strengthen his defensive ranks and could move for the Bayern Munich star in the coming days.

Chelsea have endured a tricky transfer window, as the club have not been able to get their hands on preferred targets. Much has been talked about the Blues losing out to Barcelona in the race for several stars in this market, which has left Thomas Tuchel approach the new season with a somewhat weakened squad.

Having signed Raheem Sterling earlier in the window to strengthen his attacking unit, Tuchel is unhappy with the club’s pursuit of defensive targets. The departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have left them short at the back, to which solutions have been hard to find.

Kalidou Koulibaly’s arrival has added quality at the back, but Tuchel still wants more transfers to be ready for the new season. After Chelsea missed out on Nathan Ake, Matthijs de Ligt, and Jules Kounde, with the latter signing for Barcelona, they are on the lookout for a new target.

Chelsea have now set their sights on Benjamin Pavard, who is reportedly open to joining Chelsea from Bayern Munich if a serious offer comes along. The Blues have been interested in the France international, although they have not yet made any approach.

Pavard can play as a right-back or in central defence, which could appeal to Tuchel. The German could use him as part of a three-man defence or deploy him as a wing-back and move Reece James to a centre-back role.

Chelsea may make a concrete offer to convince Bayern into letting the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner depart the club. The German side have spent big on de Ligt in this window and may offset the signing by sanctioning a sale for a player like Pavard.

As things stand, Chelsea seem to be interested in Pavard, although they have yet to make a concrete offer. They might put in a proposal in the coming days, although Bayern would demand a significant sum for the versatile defender.
