Atalanta star Duvan Zapata is among a slew of attackers offered to Newcastle United this summer.

According to a recent report from 90 Min, Newcastle United are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements this summer. They want to upgrade their goalscoring options and are thus seeking the services of a talented frontman, who can provide the goods in front of goal.

The Magpies have had no shortage of options but have been largely left disappointed with their pursuit of top targets. However, the club have been recently handed the opportunity of making a massive coup in the market by signing Atalanta forward Duvan Zapata.

The Colombian forward has had a stellar scoring record in Serie A, having netted as many as 106 goals in 257 appearances. He was even considered a top target for most Premier League clubs at one point until he opted to remain at Atalanta.

However, the forward has lost his prominence at Atalanta recently, with the forward notably making just 24 league appearances last season. Even with his limited game-time, he was able to rack up 15-goal involvements, though it wasn’t enough to help La Dea secure a European spot.

With no European football on offer for the upcoming 2022/23 campaign, Zapata could prefer a move away from the club this summer, with Newcastle United appearing as a potential destination.

As mentioned earlier, the Magpies are in desperate need of a goalscoring option, following the underwhelming performances of January signing Chris Wood while Callum Wilson has struggled with injuries. The club were heavily linked with a move for Hugo Ekitike but the move has since collapsed.

Newcastle United are strongly considering Sekou Mara as an ideal alternative for Ekitike, but it is apparent that the club may require a bit more experience up top. That is where Duvan Zapata could be a smart option as the Colombian brings a strong goalscoring pedigree and has featured in over 250 matches in the Italian top-flight.

Zapata, though, is not the only option for Newcastle United. The Magpies have also been offered the chance to sign Barcelona star Memphis Depay while the club are pursuing other alternatives as well, including the primary target Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
