More clubs have come forward with their interest in Japhet Tanganga, as Everton and Southampton are vying to agree a loan move with Tottenham.

According to Gianluigi Longari, Southampton and Everton are keen to bring Japhet Tanganga on loan for next season. Tottenham are open to letting the versatile defender depart, although there’s interest from Italy as well, with AC Milan seemingly keen on the English star.

Japhet Tanganga started last season brilliantly, playing a key role in Tottenham’s opening day victory over Manchester City, although his form dwindled after a bright period. After falling out of favour with Nuno Espirito Santo and then Antonio Conte, the defender’s immediate future at the club has come under considerable doubt.

The signing of Clement Lenglet and the imminent arrival of Djed Spence will effectively end his short-term prospects at the club and Spurs could look to offload him either on loan or permanently.

A loan move could give Tottenham a chance to see how their academy graduate fares with regular minutes. For instance, if he has a successful loan move, he could be integrated back into the squad or sold for a higher value next summer. The north Londoners are relaxed about the defender’s situation with three years left on his deal.

Everton and Southampton are vying for Tanganga as a potential option in central defence and at right-back. The Toffees need to bring in a backup for ageing defender Seamus Coleman, making the Tottenham ace a viable option. Moreover, they might look at utilising him as an option centrally.

Given their financial situation, Everton feel a loan move would be viable and have decided to explore such a possibility with Spurs for the 23-year-old. A move certainly makes sense for the Toffees, who have competition from Southampton and AC Milan.

Southampton’s recent track record with improving players has been impressive, and Tanganga could be afforded a chance to learn under Ralph Hasenhuttl. And with former Kyle Walker-Peters being linked with a move away, interestingly to Everton, they might need a new right-back, making Tanganga a target.

A move to the Saints could prove good for Tanganga, who can compete for a regular spot weekly and have better opportunities than at Spurs. However, he is reportedly looking into the prospect of moving to Italy. AC Milan remain interested, having initiated with the defender’s camp. Milan have Fikayo Tomori’s blueprint ready for Tanganga as the defender considers moving abroad.

However, the option to remain in England could weigh on the player’s mind. He could yet make back into Conte’s thinking with a good season in the Premier League, and Southampton or Everton would provide him with the platform to do so.
