Manchester United are open to offers for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer after the Portuguese icon handed in a transfer request.

Cristiano Ronaldo has dominated the headlines after handing in a transfer request at Old Trafford this week. Although Manchester United were initially reluctant to grant his wishes, it appears they are open to listening to offers for the Portuguese international, as per reports from Sky Sports pundit Kaveh Solhekol.

Ronaldo is regarded as one of the biggest stars to have ever played for Manchester United. And the Red Devils are not prepared to easily let go of the attacker. However, they are open to sanctioning the sale of the former Real Marid superstar if they find a deal that is suitable for all parties involved.

Ronaldo joined Man United last summer after bringing an end to his spell at Juventus. He was seen as the solution to the club’s goalscoring problems and the missing piece of the jigsaw for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s setup.

Although a tally of 24 goals in all competitions suggests Ronaldo was able to accomplish his personal objectives, he failed to garner enough support from his teammates. It has been combined with a series of mediocrity on and off the field that saw the Premier League giants fail to even finish in the top four this past season.

With no Champions League football on offer next season, Ronaldo is looking for a way out and he has no shortage of suitors either. Chelsea are reportedly preparing a £14 million bid for the Portuguese international, whose agent Jorge Mendes has met with the club’s new owner Todd Boehly.

In addition to Chelsea, both Barcelona and Bayern Munich have emerged as potential contenders to sign the Manchester United forward this summer, although neither of the two teams are likely to fund a move for the highly-rated frontman.

As for Manchester United, they have kickstarted their plans to replace Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the new season. Recent reports suggest the club have identified up to six top targets this summer, a list which includes RB Leipzig frontman Andre Silva while Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick has emerged as an option as well.

Manchester United will likely be in a position to afford a move for a big-name player once they sanction the same of Ronaldo. However, coach Erik ten Tag will ideally want to keep hold of the star man, as his experience could go a long way in helping the club enter into a new era.
