La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly seriously considering signing Real Madrid icon Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Joan Laporta is giving serious consideration to signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The former Real Madrid forward is keen on departing from Old Trafford ahead of the 2022/23 season to play for a Champions League club.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s second stint with Manchester United has not gone as planned, as the Red Devils endured arguably their worst Premier League campaign thus far and finished without a trophy. And after finishing sixth in the top flight, Manchester United will not feature in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Ronaldo, for his part, was among the goals, finding the back of the net 24 times and providing three assists in 38 games. But the 37-year-old is keen on leaving Manchester United this summer, citing the club’s slow business in the summer transfer window and the absence of Champions League football next season. And his next decision could surprisingly be Barcelona.

Jorge Mendes has been presenting Ronaldo to clubs across Europe in the hope of getting him out of Manchester United this summer. And the Portuguese super-agent has even offered the Real Madrid legend to Los Blancos’ arch-rival Barcelona this summer.

While on the face of it, a transfer to Barcelona seems highly unlikely, it is worth noting that Ronaldo was ready to join Manchester City last summer and is open to moving to Chelsea this year. So a transfer to Barcelona might not be out of the question for Real Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer.

But Real Madrid fans will have a bitter pill to swallow if Ronaldo moves to Barcelona. And Joan Laporta is seriously considering signing Ronaldo from Manchester United after holding talks with Mendes about several of the super-agent’s clients, including the veteran forward.

Apart from Barcelona, Ronaldo has also emerged on the radars of FC Porto, Chelsea, and Napoli, among others. But it will be interesting to see if the Real Madrid icon snubs the other suitors to move to Barcelona. For now, he is taking the required steps to leave Manchester United after skipping pre-season training thus far for “family reasons”.
