Oscar Mingueza could leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window, with Serie A new boys AC Monza keen on securing his services.

According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Oscar Mingueza is the subject of interest from AC Monza over an audacious move in the summer transfer window. The Serie A new boys and Barcelona are already in talks over a possible deal for the Spanish defender.

Oscar Mingueza started his youth career at local club UCF Santa Perpetua before joining Barcelona as an eight-year-old in 2007. The 23-year-old subsequently progressed through the ranks rapidly at their famed academy La Masia and won the UEFA Youth League with the club’s Juvenil A side.

The Spanish defender made his first-team debut for Barcelona amid a financial crisis at Camp Nou, which had forced Ronald Koeman to fast-track several youngsters to the first-team squad instead of delving into the market. And in the last two years, Mingueza has been an asset for Barcelona due to his versatility, as he has played across the defensive line for the Blaugrana.

While the youngster might not have been consistent enough to Xavi Hernandez’s liking, he has been available to play any role the Barcelona manager has wanted, turning out 66 times for the Catalan club while chipping in with two goals and five assists. But Mingueza might not be at Camp Nou beyond the summer transfer window.

Recent reports have claimed that Mingueza is surplus to requirements at FC Barcelona, with Xavi Hernandez and Joan Laporta giving the green light to cash in on him this summer. But the 23-year-old has no shortage of suitors across Europe, with AC Monza among the clubs keen on signing him.

Monza scripted history by clinching promotion to Serie A in the 2021/22 season, and owner Silvio Berlusconi and his aide Adriano Galliani have lofty ambitions for the club in the summer transfer window. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A new boys want to sign Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala and have already contacted their agents.

At the same time, Mingueza has also popped up on Monza’s radar, and they are currently negotiating a summer transfer with Barcelona. But the report does not mention whether the deal to sign the Spanish defender will take him permanently to the newly-promoted Serie A club or see them sign him on loan.

For now, the ambitious Monza project is underway, with Stefano Sensi already joining the Serie A new boys. It will be interesting to see if the Biancorossi will succeed in securing the services of Mingueza and their other targets. Meanwhile, the Barcelona defender also has several La Liga clubs tailing him, paving the way for an enticing transfer saga surrounding him.
