Real Madrid could look to sign Jude Bellingham in the summer transfer window to beat competition from Premier League clubs for the English international.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Jude Bellingham has become a target for Real Madrid for the ongoing summer transfer window. The Merengues were initially planning to launch the offensive for the English international, valued at €120 million by Borussia Dortmund, next year.

Jude Bellingham has the world at his feet at the tender age of 19, with some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe chasing his signature. The teenage prodigy is one of the best midfielders in Europe despite being a teenager. And he has taken massive strides since joining Borussia Dortmund from boyhood club Birmingham FC two years ago.

Bellingham’s stature within the English national team is also constantly rising, and he will likely be a pivotal figure for the Three Lions at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. As for his stint with Dortmund, he has turned out 90 times for the Bundesliga giants, chipping in with ten goals and 18 assists. And his progress has captured the attention of several European bigwigs, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will soon be laying down a succession plan for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, with the ageing midfield stalwarts in the twilight of their respective careers. Modric, in particular, is reaching the end of the road in his professional career and will turn 37 this year.

On the other hand, Kroos has given some indication that he could take early retirement, meaning Real Madrid will need to be aware of the opportunities in the market. Bellingham has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos reportedly plotting a move for the English international for the 2023 summer transfer window.

But with several Premier League heavyweights also rivalling Real Madrid in the race to sign Jude Bellingham, the Merengues are considering launching the offensive for the 19-year-old this summer to beat the competition. However, Bellingham will not be a cheap acquisition, with Dortmund slapping a €120 million price tag on him.

Real Madrid could tempt Dortmund by offering to loan him back to the Bundesliga club for the 2022/23 season, which seems reasonable for all parties involved. And the English international can subsequently return to the Santiago Bernabeu ready to be Modric’s heir in the Real Madrid midfield unit. But it will be interesting to see if the Spanish giants pay €120 million to sign Bellingham.
